I stopped by Dick's Sporting Goods last night and hit the clearance rack.
I should point out that's a big deal for me since I am, by nature, the World's Worst Shopper or maybe the Retailer's Best Friend.
When I shop for myself I'm very tactical. I have a picture of what I want in my head. I walk in and find what I want, grab it, walk to the register, pay for it, take the receipt, read it, shout "holy crap!" then throw the receipt away and pretend it was half the price. Whenever I go out shopping with my wife for her clothes, she tells me what she's after, I walk in and start looking up at the stuff on the walls and the mannequins. "Here's something nice," I'll say knowing that it is exactly what she described. Then she'll explain to me that if it's on the wall or the dummy then it's marked up a gazillion percent and I am not to look at it.
"But it's what you said you wanted," I'll point out.
Then she'll hold up something from the clearance rack that looks the same and say, "so is this and it's $ 9. That (pointing at the wall) is $ 200."
"I have really good taste, don't I." I'll add.
"Of course you do, honey. Who did you marry?"
But she's been working hard with me and showing how I can get twice the stuff I want for less than I'd spend on lunch in some places. So I hit the clearance rack, and got me some cool running stuff.
I laid it out on the bed last night and took this picture.
I had the Saucony shoes, but got the Reebok shorts and shirt, along with a bright orange Nike tank top. Don't they look cool?! They feel incredible. Really comfortable and light and I could totally sit at the cool table with the older kids wearing this stuff. I laid them out and did my recovery run of 3 miles in them this morning. Excellent ensemble I must say. The shoe laces bring it all together.
I do have a gripe, though. Have you seen all the wild stuff they have for women to run in? Guys have a choice of about four colors and three shirt types. Shorts have a couple of different lengths, but they're all pretty much the same. The women? Holy crap there's so much stuff it's amazing. I know I looked like a total idiot walking through the women's aisles looking at multi-colored Capri running pants, but geez.It did make me think of another submission for this blog I have to do. Runner Girls are Hot.
I'm guessing these clothes and the fact that the women are in such good shape has something to do with the popularity of road races among men.

ReplyDeleteThose are some nice duds, man! I am always amazed at what things cost. This winter, I would love to get a running jacket, but every year I find I can't part with the money. So expensive! So I end up just wearing an ugly sweatshirt and getting mocked by my running group. Maybe this year!! Bob
