Steps - Part Two
So anyway, to finish what I was saying, over time I had become a heel striking lard ass. My lard assiness is a story for another day, but carrying too much weight and having inadequate running form is what I feel led to my issues. With any kind of overuse injury, rest is highly recommended. I design, build and install custom cabinets so I am on my feet all day no matter what. Rest was not really an option. I could run, but it hurt quite a bit, but it really hurt just walking. Instead of going to shoe inserts for extra support and padding, I went the opposite direction. I got some Vibrams and I got some Saucony Kinvara's. Minimalist all the way. And I took to the stadium steps at a local college. Up and down the steps, concentrating on my form and making sure that I landed on my forefoot. Most injuries are a result of a weakness in another area of the body, so I attempted to strengthen everything, especially my feet and calves. I added pushups at the top of the stairs and crunches at the bottom. It became a total workout. I would do this about three or four times a week. Running on a flat surface was still pretty painful for quite a while, so I stuck to this workout for a few months. It enabled me to keep running and in the process I lost some weight, strengthened my feet and body and kept my fitness level way up. It also conditioned me to stop hitting my heels. My stride and form changed completely. I really don't know if this cured my problem or not, but I do know that what works for me is to stay in motion. Exercise is my medicine. I honestly can't comprehend how sitting on your ass and feeling sorry for yourself is beneficial in any way. We do have to do things that make sense for our own body. I had a few "friends" who called me stupid for running the steps. They are not for everyone, they worked for me. There is something that works for everyone. Exercise, muscle tone, and eating decent food are the best cure for most everything is my opinion. The moral of today's story is get off your butt, something is better than nothing, a rolling stone gathers no moss, an object in motion is worth two in the bush, squirrels make rotten bedfellows, we will sell no wine before its time, Cap'n Crunch is a food group and clowns should not allowed in stores.

I have Kinvaras too, and a bunny that comes to my back door to get carrots.

That's what it's all about. Not giving up and doing what works for you. I broke my ankle, felt sorry for myself for about a week and then found a way to workout the entire body, so that I could run again. Never give up. I don't understand people who talk about getting hurt and then sitting on their ass feeling sorry for themselves and gaining weight. There is always a way to move and improve. ~ Miss-T
