Ed -
Sheesh this humidity is nasty.
Today I ran a nice little 3 mile recovery run at a nice pace of 8:38. The idea being not to stress any systems, just get the juices flowing and healing activities kick started to help my body recover from yesterday's fast 8 miler. But the humidity made it feel harder than it was and I got soaked again.
Yesterday, it wasn't as humid but I was working much harder. About mile 7 I should've taken my shirt off because my right nipple had started to sting a little. Yep, guys, we've got 'em, too. I really should've paid attention to that signal because my shirt was dripping wet and sticking to me, rubbing me raw in places I'd rather not be rubbed raw.
Wait...that seems to infer there are places I not only wouldn't mind being rubbed raw, but that I would prefer it. Nope. No places. No rubbed raw places at all.
Still I ignored the signal and I kept my shirt on. Paid for that when I got home and got in the shower.
Soap stings.
So here I am this morning stepping outside for a nice, easy, short run and as I put my garmin on the sidewalk and start it, sweat rolls off my chin. Seriously? I haven't finished stretching yet!
I was dripping the entire time, but kept my breathing light, so I knew I wasn't pushing things too much. Recovery runs are supposed to feel pretty effortless. And short. But at mile two my right nipple started up again, even though I did the Vaseline prep thing this morning which always leaves little waterproof spots on the front of my shirt. This time, however, I pulled the shirt off and tucked it into the back of my shorts. In high school when we did this we thought we looked so cool.
Probably looks like I'm carrying a load in my shorts and trying to hide it with my shirt.
Okay, enough with the visuals! You guys get out and have a nice run. Remember to switch them up from hard to easy and take a day now and then to rest in between. You'll progress further than you ever thought you would.
very humid at 5am. humidity does make it tough even if it's an easy run. Don't you hate it when you still sweat even after a shower? Makes it tough to apply the make-up. You guys have all the luck. Sometimes i wish I could take my shirt off and stuff it in my shorts.
